Silkwood Decorating

Silkwood Decorating & Finishing Services was founded by Stephen Coleman and based in the beautiful town of Malmesbury, Wiltshire

Below are some examples of our work. The majority of the projects are executed using traditional methods in both new, listed and heritage building projects.

We get involved with all aspects of interior and exterior painting & decorating including traditional application of Guilding & Gold Leafing, decro-leaded glazing, sign making, lime-washing, putty glazing, paperhanging, special effect finishes as well as double glazing replacement units

Attic bedroom

The specification was to remove existing paint and paper finishes. Traditional paint materials were then applied, in the form of Distemper to ceilings and dead flat oil to woodwork.

This was a challenging wallpapering project, due to the shape and nature of the room. With various angles and beams, it needed a high skill level to achieve the quality finish needed.

Henley on Thames Newbuild

A new build house finished to a high specification. The external decorating specification, was to create a colourwash finish using modern hard wearing paint materials to withstand our climate, but to copy the more traditional method and materials used on many houses in Italy.

The basecoat and colourwash colours were mixed to suit the clients taste and using various materials and techniques, a subtle colourwash finish was created to finish the house.

For the work on the greenhouse, Silkwood supplied the scaffolding for access and joiners for timber repairs. This was followed by Silkwood supplying and fitting replacement glass and completing the decoration using a modern oil based paint system

New build Garden room

The decoration of a new build, large living space. From Bare plaster and primed woodwork, all paints were applied by brush, despite the large area. This ensured the client received the highest quality finish, finishing off an impressive living space.

New build glasshouse and existing house

The specification was to follow the colour spec from other parts of the house through to the new glass house. Externally, the render was finished with traditional limewash, applied by brush, using traditional methods. Specific paints were chosen for the woodwork, to ensure it protects the timber for as long as possible
